THREE ROCK ROVERS, DUBLIN -- The Dodder Dynamoes defeated the Sluggers 4-18, handing them their second loss in two games to start the 2014 season. The Sluggers have only been able to muster 6 runs for the season, compared to 43 runs scored against them by their opponents over the same span.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage would not have been proud: the Sluggers definitely need to turn things around 180 degrees, or else they risk repeating this scoreline over and over again. "The beat goes on" indeed, ala Sonny & Cher. "No one wants to see that: not the fans, not us... maybe not even our opponents!" said John Edwards, after checking out the Dodder Dynamoes' live score feed (check out the Dodder Dynamoes on Twitter @DodderDynamoes) - though it wasn't completely clear whether he meant videos of "Macho Man" Randy Savage, songs by Sonny & Cher, or blowout games against the Sluggers.

I blame all the Mexican foods ... I ate too much during my stay in Arizona, that slowed me down.

-- Sluggers 2B Michiyo Hogan

Michiyo Hogan, jet-lagged from a recent US trip and making her first appearance of the season, added,"I blame all the Mexican foods ... I ate too much during my stay in Arizona, that slowed me down."

Certainly not all the Sluggers seem to be keen on Sonny & Cher, and have been emulating championship-style play where they can. The newest Sluggers Daryl Clancy (OF) and Sally Greenwood (1B) certainly aren't fans of beatniks or beatdowns, as they went 2-3 and 1-4 at the plate, respectively, with two doubles and an RBI between them, in the losing effort against the Dynamoes.

Mike Shea (3B) hasn't forgotten how to hit the ball either, going 3-3 with two doubles. Trying to put a positive spin on the outcome, Shea was optimistic: "I actually saw quite a few good things during this game - we just need to put them together."

Keeping pace at the plate was Junichiro Aoki, who woke from his week 1 slump and went 3-4 with a double and a triple.

Absent from week 2's lineup was John Edwards, who was away in the US attending to a family matter. He is expected to return for week 3's matchup against the Renegades. "It's pretty clear we need to take more photos during the game - these match reports could use some 'spicing up'!", said Edwards. "Along with improving our game, we need to pay more attention to our opponents' highlights, and both defensive as well as offensive contributions. We'll put that on the 'to-do' list for sure, right after 'scoring more runs' and 'get that first win'."

The Sluggers' next match is against the Renegades Red at Castleknock College on 13 May.
